wrong response

Don’t you hate it when you give a response and 10 seconds later you know you gave the wrong response.

Rather than show concern for others, you think of how it is going to impact you first.

I did that tonight and I hate that I did it.

And while I’m sure the person who I was responding at (not to because he wasn’t in the the situation) understands, I still feel like a selfish baby who needs to go explain my response.  Instead I’ll apologize for my selfishness and try not to respond poorly next time.

So I realize I’m no good at embedding video on my blog so instead I recommend you watch this – it cracks me up!

this makes me laugh

This morning as I was heading to Lowes I get a phone call from one of my Jr. guys (we’ll use his initials, TW).  This may not be word for word but it is as close I can remember.

DK – Hey, I saw you called earlier, I was just texting you.  What’s up?

TW – Is there going to be Rock Band at the party?

DK – Party?  What party?

TW – You know, the one at church tomorrow.

DK – You mean the baby shower?  No, no Rock Band.

TW – why not?

DK – I’m not in charge of this “party”, the girls are

TW – Isn’t there a party just for the guys?

DK – Nope, just one shower that I’m not in charge of

TW – What about now?

DK – nope

TW – Now?

DK – ummm…no, no Rock Band, I’m not in charge

TW – How about now, are you in charge now?

DK – No, this is out of my hands.

TW – OK, what about the Wii?  Is that going to be set up?

DK – nope, no video games.

TW – What about now?

DK – Let me think….ummm…nope, no Wii

TW – now?

DK – wait I think something changed…nope that was just gas.  Sorry no video games

TW – so who’s in charge, I’ll call them and ask them for games

DK – That’d be Debbie.  Give her a call and ask for video games.

TW – OK, I will.  I really think we should have Rock Band, I’m the best at it.

DK – Well you talk to Debbie and if she says yes I’ll see if I can set up some games.

TW – OK, I guess I’ll talk to you later.

DK – sounds good, I’ll see ya tomorrow.  Have a good day.

I then text Debbie to give her a heads up and her reply was great. “Say what?  How do I answer that? LOL!!”

This has been a huge source of amusement for me today.  Teenage guys have no clue about showers and I think I’m going to go now just to see how many show up for the “party”!

Refuge ‘08

Melissa and I spend Monday and Tuesday at Refuge ‘08 in Birmingham.  This is a worship opportunity hosted by Student Life for youth ministers/leaders and their spouses.  I can’t say enough about how good this was for us.  Below I’ll share a few things i know I am taking from the time with God but I’m still processing a lot of it.

JESUS
name above all names….including mine and yours

I can’t live the Christian life but I can’t live in the hope of glory of Christ in me and He CAN live the Christian life.

Stop trying to do it yourself and just enjoy being there when God does something.  It will blow your mind.

Youth Ministry is helping teens become just like Jesus Christ…while I do my best to become just like Christ.

David Platt can recite Romans 1-8 from memory and I struggle to get one verse to stick in my head for an hour.  Amazing!

If I believe Romans 1-8 to be true then I should be beyond passionate for Romans 9:1-5.  I’m really chewing on this one and what it means for me personally and the ministry God has blessed me to be part of.

I almost Wii’d myself

The other day I brought the Wii home from the Student Center under the pretense I had to practice Mario Kart so I wouldn’t get absolutely decimated by my students when we play.  This was only half the truth, the other half is I wanted to play over the weekend when I knew there wasn’t a whole lot to do (again, that’s probably half a truth – there is always a lot to do.)

So Sunday night after church I’m sitting there playing and Melissa says she’d like to play also.  Now I know you don’t know this but the earth shook with that statement.  Melissa NEVER wants to play video games.  NEVER.  So i quickly set her up and we played for about an hour – granted it was the same race track most of the time but we played video games together.  Then some Wii Sports where she whooped me at bowling.  It was at this point she turned to me and said, “We should get a Wii.”  And I almost wii’d myself – those were some of the sexiest words my wife has ever said!  So hopefully the Wii fairy will make a stop at the Kruse household soon.
